Smart Insights with Real-Time Dashboards for Supply, Forecast, and Profitability

The Challenge

dentsu Australia was struggling to utilise data for meaningful business insights. They had a limited view of capacity (supply and demand), client and department/business unit profitability, forecasting, portfolio reporting, and project delivery and management.

Like many organisations, dentsu Australia grappled with manual processes (lots and lots of spreadsheets!) and time-consuming procedures to pull various data sets together. By the time Finance or Operations had collated the information, the data was out of date. Having this inconsistent framework and structure was comprising data consistency and the ability to make decisions at speed. This in turn was hindering effective data utilisation, leading to issues in capacity evaluation, client profitability, and portfolio reporting.

dentsu Australia’s main goal was to replace these manual processes with an automated reporting solution, ensuring data accuracy and timeliness to deliver business insights in real-time. This reporting workstream was run in parallel to the implementation of WorkBook in the Creative business to ensure that data points and information flows were considered and prioritised as part of the system build.

The Solution

We implemented a comprehensive reporting solution focusing on maintaining data quality and incorporating best practice processes.

Discover

In the initial phase, we delved deep into understanding dentsu’s processes, data structures, and requirements. We posed questions to the team and gained a deep understanding of their structure, the intended audience for reports, and pinpointed KPIs for business success. Our approach extended to drafting report formats and structures to help visualise the end result, defining report regularity, outlining necessary calculations, and determining the required data ahead of commencing development.

Design + Build

The Design + Build process started with data architecture, allowing us to identify potential errors and enhance data capture prior to integrating into the reports. Draft visualisations were designed before introducing live data into the report to ensure the intended data interpretation aligned with the key insights the business required.

Integral to this process was regular communication and collaboration with key dentsu stakeholders through daily stand-ups. This proactive approach ensured that reporting integration was seamlessly woven into the fabric of our solutions.

"Tangram has demonstrated an exceptional ability to establish a deep understanding of our business. Our biggest challenge lay in connecting a sound operational process with valuable data insights. Tangram not only tackled this challenge but consistently delivered great data that has become integral to our business operations and decision-making. Navigating the complexities of making the front end of our business work seamlessly for insightful outcomes is no easy feat. We had tried to address this internally with little success. The partnership with Tangram has been transformative, providing us with not just solutions but a refined and optimised operational process. Their expertise in seamlessly connecting operations with valuable data has significantly impacted our ability to derive meaningful insights."
